Chickens and eggs
One of the questions that seems difficult to judge is whether our actions result from
the stars, or whether they simply reflect what we do: what's the cause? It's
just like the question of the chicken and the egg, and many astrologers have tied
themselves up in knots as a result of this question while missing the real point that
it isn't really relevant. I've known those who would look at all the planetary aspects
and make them fit the events, and those who would look at what is happening in their
lives and check what is happening in the sky to "cause" those effects. I actually
believe that neither is true - the "cause", if one can use this word, is the
wyrd. So I'm going to approach this question from a wyrd perspective.
If one imagines a force - call it wyrd, the nature of the universe, God, spirit,
whatever... that motivates human beings and allows them to choose their path, then
that's what makes things happen in our lives. It's not the planets; it's
something invisible, a third party that cannot be measured, but that can be felt.
Nobody's ever going to be able to prove it, but the effects of what I call wyrd are
more than apparent in everyday life - so that "weird" stuff happens on a daily basis
and coincidences - things that co-incide because of the endlessly weaving and repeating
nature of the wyrd - are a way of life. The wyrd is our weaving material and
human beings manipulate it, knowingly or unknowing, with their choices or non-choices.
As above, so below
The wyrd runs through everything, everywhere and everywhen, from humans to planets. Every
human has every thread of possibility running through him or her but only brings certain of
those to the surface by his or her choices. This web of wyrd extends to the planets and, so,
there is a two-way reflection: the night sky reflects what goes on in the world below and
the world belwo reflects what goes on in the night sky. They interact in a kind of parallel:
they are interlinked. The chicken and egg analogy becomes irrelevant. The patterns are
reflected in many other ways, but astrology is the one which concerns us here.
The phrase "as above, so below" is ages old. There is no logical reason for this weird
reflection to be so, but anyone who's read cards or who studies astrology has seen that it
is so. And if they want to stay sane, they just accept it and don't try to reason it
out logically, simply because it's not quantifiable and they would end up tied
in philosophical knots. There is, after all, no rule that says it has to be
quantifiable to work... no real need to justify it beyond that simple
knowledge: Hey, it works for me and for lots of others...
The more one defines something, the more rigid it seems to become; some things it is just
better to let be.
