Ducks Cross - A Journey in Two Sniglets
Part Two - Duck! She's Found You

Part 1
Here are the ducks!
On Thursday April 10, an exact calendar month later, I was spending a
normal old morning doing the usual old things - emailing and admin and
sorting out stuff. We had been enjoying the same glorious weather that
had been in Cornwall - so unusual for
this time of year.
The previous day, I had been watching a pet rescue program where two
officers were trying to catch a duck that had the plastic holder from a
four-pack of beer round its neck. The duck was paranoid and led them a
merry dance, never to be caught - it could still fly and swim. Perhaps
this was what reminded me of Ducks Cross. I decided to have another crack
at the elusive Landmark.
In the early afternoon, I got onto Katie, without my overcoat
for the first time this year (well, in this country, at least.) I zipped up the
A1, thoroughly enjoying the freedom of less bulk, and up to Chawston, where I
rode to the end of the road, as per my previously studied map. It
still didn't look like I had imagined, but this time I found
Ducks Cross cottage!
It was very easy to miss, just a very small sign, but I was rather
pleased that my map and detective work had paid off. I had my photo
session, watched by some guys who were driving a purple dog of a car,
maybe to a local scrappie. I even set it up with a plastic yellow duck ;-)
I also did my first perfect u-turn on Katie; boy, was I pleased! On the
way back, I got a couple of pictures of thatched cottages for Don, as
he had been completely unable to visualise what I was talking about, and
then made my way home. I took my photos into Hitchin for express developing,
and was very pleased with them when they came back. Now, that's six
Landmarks confirmed :-)
I had fun. I did 72 miles, and was out for about two hours. Many months
later, the Landmarks letter I received informed me that I was not the only
person to have had trouble finding Ducks Cross. But they were right - it
was on the map ;-)
