Introduction

Because there are so many pictures for this series, rather than putting all of them up at once, I'll try something different. Each of these links will take you to the photograph. Clicking on each link loads the new picture on top of the other. It means you can pick and choose what you see and progress through like a slideshow. Just move your windows around so you can see both at once.

Pictures

A Very Little Plane
The very tiny 30-seater which transported me to Redding, a very tiny airport.

Sunset at Lake Shasta
The sunset as we watched in at Shasta Dam on the first night.

Shasta Lake and Caverns
Looking over the lake to where we would enter the caverns.

Turtle Bay Forest
The forest in which Turtle Bay recreation/natural history area in Redding is set.

Butterfly House
Butterfly House - unusual door, humid garden, lots and lots of fluttering and planted colour.

Barb and Butterflies
My good friend, surrounded by critters and flowers.

Close-Up
Up close and personal to one of the butterflies. Hey, I like what my camera can do! :-)

The Poolside Mixer
Drinks, laughter, conversation and games as new friends were made and people got to know one another.

Sunset on the Fourth
A vivid red sunset was watched as we waited for the fireworks to begin on the Fourth of July.

Susan's Harley
Susan rode her gorgeous bike solo from West Virginia - over 3000 miles each way. She's a training instructor out there, and I enjoyed talking to her.

Praying Mantis
An unusual visitor to our hotel curtains.

Helmet Hair
A Very Serious Song about the troubles of helmet hair - known to most women and some male bikers. Helmets are death to hairstyles, but I wouldn't want to ride much without one. This was the start of our banquet.

Iowa Bikers
Two ladies from Iowa who were at our table at the banquet. While I do have a card with their names on, I can't find it right now :-(

Carolyn
Carolyn was the youngest rider to ride up here to the rally - from my home town of Sunnyvale. She had electric blue hair that I thought was brilliant, and reminded me a lot of my friend Tigerlilie.

Barbara and I at the banquet
Two long-time friends, having fun.

Barbara and Susam
Two new friends, having fun.

Whiskeytown Lake
This should give you an impression of the beauty of the land around Redding. The lake was formed with yet another dam, and we explored it the day after the rally ended - feeling a bit sad, overall.

Kennedy Memorial
Memorial to commemorate the opening of the dam, along with a recorded (long) snippet of Kennedy's (longer) speech.

Shasta Dam
It's big. Very, very, very big. And it has ospreys nesting on the pylons, too!

Me and my Dee Tours Book
Reading and enjoying my Dee Tours book in the Shasta Dam visitor centre's park. Dee did a solo 100-day tour on her motorcycle and was quite inspiring. The book is great. I'd tell you where to get it only her Web site is gone. I hope that's temporary...
