November Write-A-Novel-Month Challenge

Challenge

November is National Write A Novel competition month. I'm not that interested in writing a novel so quickly, but one of the members at Book Crossing came up with the intriguing idea of releasing 30 novels into the wild during November 2003. I thought it might be fun to join in.

I'd never read anything from this author before, and found it really enjoyable. An English record shop owner tries to bring meaning to his life by going through all his past relationships. There are many poignant insights into a man's mind, and a refreshing honesty in this story. It's also very funny.

Lady of the Forest
Jennifer Roberson Amazon.com

Barnes & Noble
Not a bad Robin Hood legend. At times the characters were a bit too modern for my liking, given the setting, but it's nice to have a Maid Marion who's a toughie. I liked the twist on why RH was doing what he was doing.

Public transit
Shogun
James Clavell Amazon.com

I've read this one several times, and even enjoyed the TV series back in the eighties. It's a powerful insight into the values and thoughts of a very different culture.

Truly enjoyed this book. It has a strong sadness to it, as the main protagonist is foisted from foster home to foster home... trying on different selves until she finally finds something that works. Didn't think I'd enjoy it, but I did.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. A dark thriller about an island that might be infected with nasty diseases, an historical society, and a rambunctious cop recovering from a GSW.
