Introduction
The Forest is a seasonal (around 8 times a year) e-zine which is hosted
on
Annwn's sister site, Ravensmeet. It is the result of years of hoping to
publish a small press magazine and many months of birthing Ravensmeet
Online Community from the essence of Annwn itself (hmm, does that make it
a daughter site? ;-).
We also plan to take it to print as often as is feasible. The first two
issues are available and can be purchased online at the page above.
Each edition has up to eight pages, or groves, each with an anecdote,
vignette or short article or poem. The combination will vary from season
to season, and we'll take work which has been submitted by our Villagers
(the name we use for members of Ravensmeet... We'll get to that in a
minute).
There is no set theme - each season, we hope to publish a wide range of
work, and always something for everyone. We draw visitors by the quality
of the work published, so that work in The Forest is seen not
only by Villagers, but also by passing visitors who are exploring
Ravensmeet. As a visitor to Annwn, that could, of course, include you ;-)
Aside from good reading, this is an area in which our Benefactors, or
sponsors, grow "virtual trees" to help support both Annwn and Ravensmeet
- with luck, this will help both sites avoid banner ads in future.
If you find the concept interesting, or would like to help this site grow,
please do visit and read up on how to become a Benefactor.
So what is Ravensmeet anyway?
Ravensmeet is the online community which grew from and out of Annwn, the
Wild Wyrd Web Site. Founded in 1996, it quickly became apparent that
Annwn's best feature was the way it seemed to bring like-minded people in
together. While chat never really took off here, the forums I have had
at various times and the great many emails I have received over the years
have been a lot of fun and often very thought-provoking. The idea of a
related site, not about me but more about you and people like you, was
first hatched around 1998.
Ravensmeet is very loosely modelled after a Celtic community,
with no
pretentions at all to be historically accurate. It even borrows the
good bits from other historical periods. More, it is a place where
people can come together from different countries, religions and walks of
life and perhaps learn something new. We ask for and aim to provide
respect, fun and friendships. So far so good.
The site was first opened to
a small group of people in October 1999 and is slowly growing into
something very warm and welcoming, a great place for anyone with an open
mind. There are several creative projects going on -
an ongoing Story-Telling section for building a "Legend of Ravensmeet"
which just so happens to be set in the land of Annwn... so if you are a
writer, it's something to check out.
We ask you, then, to consider taking a look. The Guided Tour will give you
everything you need to decide whether or not you will join.
Ravensmeet is open to everyone aged eighteen and over.
You'll find Ravensmeet at http://www.ravensmeet.com.
Meanwhile, whether the online community is for you or not, please do check
out The Forest.
