22 June 2003: Purple Cargo Net

Cargo nets are a mesh of bungee-like cords in a net, with six hooks attached, three on each side. Unlike bungee cords, which can ping off and create really dreadful havoc, cargo nets are a bit more stable. They can stretch over your tank, or behind you on the passenger seat, holding a whole variety of things safely down. I have used them to keep in maps, boxes, and any amount of shopping.

You can get them in your local bike supply shop for about $5-$10. I have three: one black, one purple, and one blue. Purple is my favourite colour, which is why I'm nominating it Gadget of the Week.
